D'Sauvage

If we had a dollar for every time someone came to us looking for a horse that was "Easy and Safe", we'd be millionaires by now!

But "easy and safe" are two of the first words we use for  D'Sauvage. He is so kind and very straightfoward, becoming the "go-to" horse when we have someone visit who just isn't too sure about heading for the open country.

D'Sauvage is such an easy horse to get along with--he will head out in any direction, at any speed, on a loose rein. He goes exactly where you point him, never hesitates when an obstacles comes into your path and is always quiet and patient when you need to stop. Easy, easy, easy.

And he is safe. He has done and seen it all. He had a successful career at the track and then parleyed that into a stint as a "Makeover" horse in the first Thoroughbred Makeover, where the crowd at Pimlico got to see him do a perfect show hunter course, along with a sidesaddle demo AND a leadline rider. The perfect gentleman, unruffled by everything. He has been the safe steady horse while learning every job here at the ranch--even when he does get scared, he is smart enough to look hard at the situation rather than run from it.

While this guy has brought home some ribbons in the ring, he truly loves the wide open country and we really see him as a superior foxhunter. He is a safe, comfortable horse over jumps and handles himself well in all sorts of terrain. You could ride on the buckle all day and he would never put a foot wrong.

And did we mention he hauls well, has perfect ground manners, good feet and is a super, super easy keeper (kind of a fatty if you must know!)?

The Gate to Great program, with head trainer Dale Simanton, takes Thoroughbreds off the track and retrains them as working ranch horses near the Black Hills of South Dakota. Several of our horses have already gone on to excellent careers as foxhunters and we are happy to provide references from a variety of hunts across the US.
