GTG "Enjoyment" Program
One of our favorite parts about finding the perfect home for one of our geldings is watching them continue to succeed after they leave the ranch. Our horses have gone on into careers as eventers, fox hunters, barrel racers and even polo ponies.
We always say that when a rider is happy with their new horse, the horse is happy with their new rider and that all of us win when that happens. And to keep "paying it forward", we have decided to introduce a unique incentive program that recognizes just how much those horses and riders "enjoy" each other...it is called the GTG "Enjoyment" Program.

The goal of this program is to encourage people who purchase our horses to get out and truly "enjoy" the wonderful mount they now own. It doesn't matter whether you show in dressage, calf rope or simply just trail ride on your Gate to Great OTTB, it just matters that you and your horse enjoy your time together.
This is a program we hope to build upon as the years go by and more of our horses find their forever homes with people who truly enjoy them. It is our goal to have each of the horses that leave our program be matched with a rider that will allow them to reach their fullest potential. And we strongly believe that to reach that potential, both horse and rider must love what they do.
How It Works:
The program will cover six months of each year, starting April 1 and ending October 1. Points will be kept by the GTG horse owner and will be on the honor system. The only qualification for entry was that the horse must have been purchased from Gate to Great/Horse Creek Thoroughbreds.
Points will be awarded as follows:
- 1 Point Per Hour in the saddle for general riding/training
- 2 Points Per Hour in the saddle for riding at public events (horse shows, parades, rodeo competitions, etc)
- 3 Points Per Hour in the saddle for winning a competition (will require verification)
Interested riders can download the log form below and use it for the 2014 riding season. Logs must be submitted via email or snail mail by October 15 of each year to be included in the awards. Hi-Point earners will be announced by October 31 and prizes for all participants will be given out. In addition, there will be a yearly prize for "Happiest Horse" via a photo essay competition.
In addition, all participating riders will be invited to a "GTG Class Reunion" each summer, held at the ranch in Newell, SD. A fun weekend of riding, ranching and meeting new friends, it is a chance to bring your Gate to Great graduate back to the ranch country and find out what they learned before you met them. Accomodations for horses will be provided at the ranch and riders may either choose to camp or stay at a hotel in nearby Belle Fourche or Sturgis.
